I just wanted to share a new piece with all of the bassoonists here in the forum. “Tree Hollow Echoes” was composed in 2017 by Yong Siew Toh Conservatory-faculty composer Ho Chee Kong for myself and recorded on campus in February with mridangam soloist, Tony Makarome.
I was impressed with how the colors of the bassoon worked so well with the rich timbres of the south Indian mridangam drum. Stay tuned for the final recording.
Has anyone here done any work with non-western instruments here? If so, tell me more…
